Session 9

Thalamra Vanthampur

PCs (lvl 4): Martin, Ozwald, Sylran, Theridhas

The PCs kill the assaulting cultists, and try once again to open the door to the Vault. The sturdy iron door does not give in, and the party decide to look elsewhere for the key.

While exploring the tunnels they are ambushed by Duke Thalamra, enraged for their meddling in her affairs. The Duke unleashes her devilish powers on them, but is eventually defeated. Her last words are "see you in Hell!". Among her possessions they find the key to the Vault.

The PCs enter the Vault, and there they find High Overseer Thavius Kreeg. The old man swears to have been a prisoner of the Duke, and he's thankful to the party for saving him. The PCs are suspicious, especially when they notice that his shadow is shaped like a horned fiend, but without further proof of foul play they decide to trust the Overseer, while keeping an eye on him.

Inside the Vault they also find the Shield of the Hidden Lord, an ancient artifact apparently containing a celestial being. Narash attunes himself to the shield, and begins hearing the voice of the angelic creature, prompting him to travel to Hell so they might fight the devilish hordes together.

The PCs proceed to the prisons, where they fight a bearded devil and then free two prisoners. One is Satiir Thione-Hhune, an elderly nobleman, and the other is Falaster Fisk, a spy from Candlekeep at the service of the sage Sylvira Savikas. When Theridas connects their minds telepathically, he reveals to have been sent to spy on Thavius Kreeg, as his master believes he has sold his soul to a devil. Theridas suggests to keep things quite for the moment.

The group leaves the sewers, gaining access once again to the stables. This is when Thavius Kreeg inquires about a box he owned, apparently taken from him by the Vanthampurs. The party realizes the box contains the infernal pact Thavius has made with his hellish masters, and they confront Thavius on the issue.

At this point something weird happens. Narash's newly acquired shield casts a fireball spell on the whole party! Many fall unconscious, but those that survive the explosion rapidly attack the Overseer, putting an end to his existence. Same as the Duke, his last words are "See you in Hell!".

The party abandons the villa, and report to Zodge. While they visit the captain, a Commander Liara Portyr of Chult arrives at the meeting. She will be taking charge of the Flaming Fists during the absence of Duke Ravenguard. She listens to the PCs' report, and suggests they visit Candlekeep to speak with Sylvira Savikas, as also hinted by Falaster.
