Session 10

Sylvira opens the Infernal Puzzle Box
PCs (lvl 4): Narash, Ozwald, Sylran, Theridhas

The party leaves Baldur's gate, on their way to Candlekeep. They make a short stop at Wyrm's Crossing, where they're targeted by local cutpurses.

Travelling south on the Coast Way, they're approached by a farmer riding a wagon loaded with hay. But the farmer is actually a devilish Cambion, hunting for the Shield of the Hidden Lord (now in Narash's possession). Hiding in the hay are several armed men. The PCs defeat the villains after a dangerous fight, and proceed to Candlekeep.

In the fortress they meet with Sylvira Savikas, the tiefling archmage. She succeeds in opening the puzzle-box, revealing its contents: an infernal pact between the High Overseer of Elturel and the fallen angel Zariel. It looks like Thavius Kreeg has doomed the whole population of Elturel to Hell. The only way to save those innocent souls is to travel to Hell, and find a way to nullify the deal.

Session 9

Thalamra Vanthampur
PCs (lvl 4): Martin, Ozwald, Sylran, Theridhas

The PCs kill the assaulting cultists, and try once again to open the door to the Vault. The sturdy iron door does not give in, and the party decide to look elsewhere for the key.

While exploring the tunnels they are ambushed by Duke Thalamra, enraged for their meddling in her affairs. The Duke unleashes her devilish powers on them, but is eventually defeated. Her last words are "see you in Hell!". Among her possessions they find the key to the Vault.

The PCs enter the Vault, and there they find High Overseer Thavius Kreeg. The old man swears to have been a prisoner of the Duke, and he's thankful to the party for saving him. The PCs are suspicious, especially when they notice that his shadow is shaped like a horned fiend, but without further proof of foul play they decide to trust the Overseer, while keeping an eye on him.

Inside the Vault they also find the Shield of the Hidden Lord, an ancient artifact apparently containing a celestial being. Narash attunes himself to the shield, and begins hearing the voice of the angelic creature, prompting him to travel to Hell so they might fight the devilish hordes together.

The PCs proceed to the prisons, where they fight a bearded devil and then free two prisoners. One is Satiir Thione-Hhune, an elderly nobleman, and the other is Falaster Fisk, a spy from Candlekeep at the service of the sage Sylvira Savikas. When Theridas connects their minds telepathically, he reveals to have been sent to spy on Thavius Kreeg, as his master believes he has sold his soul to a devil. Theridas suggests to keep things quite for the moment.

The group leaves the sewers, gaining access once again to the stables. This is when Thavius Kreeg inquires about a box he owned, apparently taken from him by the Vanthampurs. The party realizes the box contains the infernal pact Thavius has made with his hellish masters, and they confront Thavius on the issue.

At this point something weird happens. Narash's newly acquired shield casts a fireball spell on the whole party! Many fall unconscious, but those that survive the explosion rapidly attack the Overseer, putting an end to his existence. Same as the Duke, his last words are "See you in Hell!".

The party abandons the villa, and report to Zodge. While they visit the captain, a Commander Liara Portyr of Chult arrives at the meeting. She will be taking charge of the Flaming Fists during the absence of Duke Ravenguard. She listens to the PCs' report, and suggests they visit Candlekeep to speak with Sylvira Savikas, as also hinted by Falaster.

PCs (lvl 4): Martin, Narash, Ozwald, Theridhas

The PCs ransack the Duke's private rooms, then look for a way to reach the sewers under the house. They find a secret passage inside the stables that leads them to an underground lair of sorts. Several rooms have been excavated in the sewers, where many cultists devout to infernal powers dwell. The PCs fight the cultists and even a full-fledged devil from Hell.

From a captured cultist they learn that the Overseer Thavius Kreeg of Elturel is kept in a vault. The find this room, but the iron door that separates them from the Overseer is locked. The party tries to open the door, but they attract the attention of several more cultists. As the crazed acolytes charge at them, the PCs get ready for a fight.

Thurstwell Vanthampur
PCs (lvl 3): Martin, Ozwald, Theridhas

The PCs buy some fine clothes to enter the Upper City without raising too much suspicion. They take a room at an inn near to the Vanthampur villa, and stake out the place for a few hours.

They decide to ambush a group of house guard during the change of the shift, and steal their uniform. They infiltrate the villa with this ruse, and begin searching for clues.

Inside the villa they knock out a few more guards, and they meet Slobberchops, the intelligent flying cat of the duke. In the tower of the villa they find two prisoners, but no trace of the High Overseer of Elturel.

While exploring the household bedrooms, they chance upon Thurstwell Vanthampur, the eldest of the Duke's sons. The man is busy trying to solve a puzzle box. Oz tries to knock him out with a spell, but he accidentally kills him. The PCs recover the puzzle box, and they find infernal writings all over the item. Unable to open the box, they continue their search for the High Overseer.

The party pretends to perform the task given to them by Amrik, and then return to the money lender. The encounter begins in friendly terms, but it soon degenerates into a fight. The party kills Amrik's bodyguard and devilish pet, and then interrogate the man.

Eventually Amrik confesses the involvement of his mother with the Cult of the Dead Three. He also admits that the High Overseer of Elturel is indeed in his mother's house. While the interrogation is ongoing, an invisible imp poisons and kills Amrik, before escaping.

The party decide to report to Captain Zodge of the Flaming Fist. Unfortunately all they have is their words, as they did not make any arrests. Zodge suggest they they find proof of the whole conspiracy in the Vanthampur Villa.

Amrik Vanthampur
PCs (lvl 3): Narash, Ozwald, Sylran, Theridhas

The party visits the Low Lantern, a converted ship now serving as a tavern and gambling hall. The PCs attract the attention of the bouncers in the wrong way, and a fight starts. The party has the upper hand, piquing the interested of Skadric Salakar, a corrupt Flaming Fist.

Skadric introduces them to Amrik Vanthampur, a money-lender, and the son of Duke Vanthampur. Amrik is in the company of a burly bodyguard, and a spined devil that he treats as a personal pet.

The PCs try to earn Amrik's trust to better understand his family's involvement in the fate of Elturel, and the man gives them a criminal assignment to prove their worth. The party leaves the Low Lantern still undecided if they will perform the task or not.

Outside of the tavern they meet Reya Mantlemorn, a Hellrider from Elturel hiding in Baldur's Gate. Reya is investigating a rumour that Thavius Kreeg, the high overseer of Elturel, is in the city. Reports say the Kreeg was seen in the company of four guards employed by the Vanthampur family.

Realizing their goals are somewhat aligned, the party forms an alliance with Reya, and together they plot their next move.

He knows his mother and brothers are paying the cultists to kill people in Baldur's Gate, to show that the Flaming Fists have failed in protecting Baldur's Gate. In this way, Duchess Thalamra hopes to raise to the status of Grand Duke.

He also believes his brothers have paid the Dead Three to kill him, and he now plans to leave the city. He point the PCs in the direction of the Low Lantern, a ship-tavern that his brother Amrik ues to conduct his illicit affairs.

The PCs loot the coffers of the Dead Three, retrieving several object apparently stolen from a dragon hoard. When they leave the dungeon, and return to the surface, they find a band of dragon cultists, servants of Tiamat, waiting for them. PCs (lvl 2): Martin, Narash, Ozwald, Sylran, Theridhas

The PCs visit the shrine of Helm, looking for refugees to interrogate, to better understand the fate of Elturel. They manage to speak with a few survivors, learning that Elturel has apparently been "devoured" by a dark portal that has taken the place of the Companion, the magical sphere of sunlight that was the pride of goodly city.

Later the party visits the bath-house as directed by Tarina. They first investigate the place as "clients", eventually discovering a secret passage leading underground. With a ruse, they empty the place of other clients, and then put the servants to sleep with magic. Then they enter the passage.

They find themselves delving through dark corridors filled with ankle-deep sewer water. The signs of the cultists presence are soon revealed, when the PCs find dead bodies with strange markings, and several shrines dedicated to the Dead Three.

Session 1

Flaming Fist Coat of Arms
PCs (lvl 1): Narash, Ozwald, Sylran, Theridhas

The PCs are hired by Zodge, a Captain of the Flaming Fists, to investigate the cult of the Dead Three. He tells them to contact a woman colled Tarina, currently residing in the Elfsong tavern.

The party goes to the tavern, experiencing the eerie elven song that gives the place its name. They meet Tarina, who asks them to help her with a problem she has with some former associates. A crew of pirates is looking for her to get revenge from a previous slight, and she wants to party to protects her.

While they wait for the pirates to arrive, the PCs hear again the elfsong, but this time the words are different (listen to the song HERE).

O sing a song of Elturel of water, woods, and hill
The sun dawns on her ruddy cliffs and fields green and still.
This land of long-abiding joy, home of the strong and brave
Renowned by all, across the realms, and never once a slave.

O sing a song of Elturel, when foes are at her door
Her fields torn by cloven feet from some infernal shore.
Arise the mighty Hellriders, take up your swift, keen swords
Then charge into the hellish fray and scatter devil hordes.

O sing a song of Elturel and when the night does fall
Sleep safe beneath Companion’s light until the dawn does call.
We’re bound by mortal covenant that only ends with death
And so we’ll sing of Elturel until our final breath.

Not long after, the pirates show up. The party fight against them, and eventually prevail. Having upheld their part of the bargain, Tarina reveals to them where they can find the cult of the Dead Three.
